Hi Dan, thanks for sharing this and for explaining
why it matters. A clean paper trail is exactly what a lot of crews rely on Conversations for, so this is really useful feedback.
Here’s where things stand today. Editing and deleting comments rolled out earlier this month, with a few guardrails built in so the conversation stays trustworthy:
• Only the person who wrote a comment can edit it, and edited comments are labeled as edited.
• Deleting a comment doesn’t make it silently vanish. A note stays in the thread showing a comment was removed.
• Only Admins can delete someone else’s comment. Everyone else can only delete their own.
What we don’t have today is a way to view the previous version of an edited comment. I’ve passed your request along to the team that owns Conversations. Feedback like yours helps shape what gets prioritized. I can't make any promises, but I'll make sure this is on our radar.
In the meantime, a few ways to protect your paper trail:
- Add a follow-up comment instead of editing. Encourage your team to post a new correction comment if a detail changes, so the original wording stays in the thread.
- Keep the Admin role small. Admins are the only ones who can delete other people’s comments.
- Update everyone’s app. The edited label and deleted note show up best on the latest version.
Here’s how it all works:
