Edit Active Advanced Checklists on Projects

Now that the MCP gives us access to advanced checklists (but not classic checklists), we want to move over to advanced checklists so that we can make them via automations, and use their nice features.

However, we can't add Fields or Sections to existing checklists on projects. This was such a helpful feature of classic checklists, allowing us to build on the structure of a template while still being able to capture one-off items without needing to make a whole separate checklist.

It would be much easier if we could add Fields and Sections to active advanced checklists on projects without relying on the cumbersome workarounds of duplicating or deleting existing Fields/Sections on the checklist. We can't even do the duplicating/editing of active checklists through MCP, so it eats away from that automation value big time.

Has anyone found a better workaround for this issue?

Any idea when the one-off advanced checklists will be available to add to projects? And will those be able to derive from a template and be edited in the project on web/mobile apps and over MCP?

Hey Lee, this is a great callout and you're reading the situation exactly right.

Adding Fields and Sections to a Checklist that's already live on a Project isn't something you can do directly in the app (or over MCP) today. That's a known gap, and it's actively being worked on right now!

The good news: there's already a way to do this. The CompanyCam Assistant can add, edit, and discard Sections, Fields, and conditional follow-ups on an existing Advanced Checklist, not just Templates. So instead of duplicating or deleting your way around it, you can pull up the Checklist and tell the Assistant what you need added, conditional logic included. It can also build a brand-new one-off Checklist from scratch with no Template at all, refine it as you go, and complete items (text and photos). Worth trying on a live Checklist and seeing how close it gets you.

On your bigger question: one-off Advanced Checklists in the UI are being built as we speak. I can't put a date on it, but that's the direction — the Assistant just got there first.

It's worth flagging that "derive from a template, then edit the instance" is the specific part I want to make sure the team hears, because it's a little different from "build a one-off from nothing."
