Pick Your Poison 🔥❄️

I do roofing and plumbing and for roofing, I have worked in extreme hot and extreme cold and the one that has put me to near tears was extreme cold. Having warm gloves that you can still use your hands for detail work are just plain non-existent, so it’s the cold hands that get to me. The same goes with plumbing, working with cold metal pipe with wafer thin gloves is nothing short of painful in the cold. Hot I have always been able to handle, especially with those crazy cooling towels they have now.

When Do You Unfollow Someone?

I'm a big purge person. Once a year, sometime in the winter usually, or on a rainy day where I have nothing else to do, I will find myself unfollowing people en masse. When doing so I ask myself these questions:

1) how long has it been since I thought about you or saw you?
2) would I like to reconnect at some point?
3) am I enjoying your content?

For the most part, I don't care if someone disagrees with me politically, religiously, or any of that, but it may one day change my answer to number 3. THAT IS OKAY but so is being in touch with different opinions. In turn, I end up giving a longer leash to someone whose content morphs, than I do someone who I haven't interacted with and maybe don't think it's important to try and interact with anytime soon. Part of the problem with social media is the fact that it has created echo chambers. There doesn't have to be a diversity of thought or influx of new ideals when you are the one catering your feed and choosing what you see. In the end, I want social media to complement my in-person experiences and not detract from them, so that's how I build my platforms.

It sounds like @Awesome Framers wants to only see useful content, so if that is the intended purpose, that should be all you follow someone for.

When Do You Unfollow Someone?

Awe thank you Tim! I personally love your content, the mix of education and humor a perfect balance. For me, if someone starts going political, religious, conspiracy theory-ish, consistent negative posts, I will unfollow. I don’t scroll a lot so when I do, I want to see the positive people that enjoy seeing their content especially related to construction, seeing content I’m interested in outside of work, like fitness amd rollerskating. I don’t want to flood my minimal scrolling with negativity and things I’m not interested in. So I have no problem unfollowing if the stars don’t align.

📱Social media is tough (good thing we have some pros here) share your best advice.

Definitely the hook. And for me, many of my viral videos leading to my success on social media has been through videos that people think I’m going to fail at, like working on live waterlines.

I agree with Tim though, it can be soul sucking sometimes. The stress, the daily negativity (though the comments don’t bother me, they are still present), and it is a TON OF WORK! But, it is also very rewarding and has also opened many doors for me and given me a life that I would have never dreamed of as a little girl growing up in poverty. Went off track as usual…

Pushing checklist reminders to the team?

1) we utilize the assign feature, and it works well for initial set up of project
2) we don't utilize conversation because it doesn't log properly in reports for our use, and isn't as integrated with the rest of our departments as Microsoft Teams, so we have added a "text" "question" to the top of our checklists allowing for "Additional feedback from the field..." and then under the notes we have provided a spot for Foreman and "text" spot for Technicians. We try to just use Checklists and not Tasks to simplify our user experience with one less tab, but also because the in-depth customization of Checklists is a massive plus.
3) this could be a workaround, but then we also would need to physically go in and remind them. An automated reminder seems less like "big brother" and micromanaging from a field perspective. I suppose these notifications would allow for their phone to get that tasks pushed to them, or are the push notifications just on photo comments and convo comments?

Thanks for passing along our suggestion. We love the app and are excited for how it evolves in the future.

Really, really appreciate you taking the time to share all of this with us!

Push notifications will work for anything they get a notification about under the
:bell:
in CompanyCam! So yes, they'd get push notifications for Assigned Tasks so long as they have their push notifications enabled.

Pushing checklist reminders to the team?

Hey - great suggestion! There isn't a way to push a reminder notification to a User, but there are a few options you might consider adopting to your workflow.
  1. Are you assigning Checklists to your team? Once you assign a Checklist to someone, they'll get a notification in their notification center, in addition to a push notification and/or email notification, depending on their settings. https://help.companycam.com/en/articles/7331358-assign-a-checklist-to-users
  2. This feature doesn't necessarily operate on your end, so you might need to coach your team how to use the feature correctly, but they can set up reminders for Project Conversation messages and photo comments. https://help.companycam.com/en/articles/6828347-how-to-use-notifications#h_13812a243e
  3. You can also assign Tasks to your team. In your case, I'd recommend creating a Task on the Project such as, "Complete checkout before leaving the job site" and assign it to each User who needs to complete the checkout. They can view all Tasks assigned to them under their 'My Stuff' tab. https://help.companycam.com/en/articles/6828347-how-to-use-notifications#h_13812a243e

How are you guys actually getting more reviews?

We've got a few resources to help with getting folks to complete that review.

Here is one blog on it that has some tips inside, perhaps there are a few you haven't tried or that may spark an idea! https://companycam.com/resources/blog/how-to-get-more-reviews-for-your-contracting-business

I also hosted a monthly CompanyCam webinar where Justin Silverman, CEO of Merchynt, talked about optimizing local SEO - and that included a part about best practices for getting reviews!

That's here: https://companycam.com/resources/webinars/local-search-google-optimization-justin-silverman

Pushing checklist reminders to the team?

Is there a way to push a reminder to the team to complete their checklists by a certain day or time?

For example, we do lots of work around the country with Mon-Thu timeframes and we would like to stress the importance of a Thursday checkout before traveling back home. Today, we had an entire crew who failed to do their checkout update. Their response was that no one asked them to complete it.

For perspective, this is the third week of usage for this team, and last week we honestly didn't need an update because the construction manager for the client was on-site and didn't need a briefing, and work couldn't progress the way we intended.

I have several travel plans (to places that ACTUALLY have fall) and I'm spending my free time trying to catch up on my reading goal before the end of the year!
